My questions...your answers
Is it just me?

I can't believe how much SPAM I've gotten just from signing up for JU. I created a new account at Yahoo! for this blog and then bingo bango - I got mail. Lots of it. Tons of it. Tons of junk.

How about you?

Its really hard to say sometimes why someone gets so much spam. I've heard that Yahoo is notorious for spam...so I've never used it...I've also heard that Hotmail is guilty as well...but I have a Hotmail account through MSN and I never get spam. I'm pretty much spam free. One thing I do though is... if for whatever reason a site wants my email address...I just make up a throw away address to use and then wait and see what happens...if it starts getting spammed I just delete it...no more spam...if it doesn't...I can always go back and change it. And if I ever need to give my address to someone here I never type it out using the @ symbol if its going to be posted somewhere. It may be a pain in the butt for someone...but I don't get my address harvested by the spam bots.

In the end, if you are careful about everything else, the main thing that is going to cause you to get spam is the name you use for the account. People make that argument about not getting spam on one account and getting tons on another, but never realize that one account is l33tb0Y69@whatever.com and johnsmith@whatever.com is the other.

When they shoot for email addies randomly it works like passwords. I get nothing on one account, and one that is name based gets tons, even though I have never, ever signed up for anything with the name based one. I just know that once they have the domain name, they start grinding out emails to random names hoping to hit. It goes doubly for using your first initial and your last name, as I found out to my dismay.

But I guess I dont qualify for the " Viagra " ads

I have some spares you can have...if you're feeling left out....

Er....'ads', not 'Viagra'....

Nor the 'longjohntiddlywhacker' enlargement ads? Crikey, even my mother and sister get those from time to time, as well as....like they're discontented/malcontented house wives or something.

Starting to feel forgotten and like a lost cause here....neglected, even. Haven't received a Viagra or 'thingwybob' enlargement ad in ages now....tho I'm perplexed as to why I occasionally got offers, when using Yahoo mail, for free membership to gay & lesbian sites. Maybe their email scanners latched on to a reference I once made to Robin Hood and his 'merry' men visiting 'gay' Paris~ to see 'Les Girls'

In any event, internet advertising can be quite sordid and invasive...second guessing peoples sexual orientation/needs and sending them unsolicited filth to generate/boost sales.

I get a whole heck of a lot of spam on the e-mail account I used for Joe User, but I don't know if that is why. I don't get much spam on any of my other accounts though, so it is possible I guess.
