My questions...your answers
City or Country?
Published on April 10, 2008 By Question of the Day In Home & Family

I'm back in California for a few months.  In my last entry I shared that my MIL died here so now we have a house and we've decided to stay - Nuts I know.  Who wants to live in CA?  The politics and laws are all screwed up (I'll write more about this another time.)  But we have a house on some land in a very nice little community so we couldn't pass up the opportunity.  Besides, my husband has been wanting to move west for more than five years now.

I've been doing some spring cleaning inside and out - but mostly outside.  I fogot how much I really do like to have a yard - a big yard.  We have 1.22 acres with about 20 or so fruit and nut trees.  We also have very nice flower beds around the house and a beautiful garden out back.  I'm loving it.  There's nothing like digging in the dirt to make me feel at home.  Trimming trees, trimming the grass, pulling the weeds.  It's such a change from living in Michigan where we had a condo.

I was watching a national news network program the other day about real estate and the differences between what women and men want.  They said women want family space and large yards and men want smaller yards and 'unique' spaces (read caves).  Surprise, surprise, who ends up doing the yard work any way?  The men - so smaller is better.  I know, I know I'm making some huge politically incorrect sexist BS statement.  I know because I'm the one that does most of the yard work here.  But this is my interpretation of the facts and I'm sticking to it.

Anyway, I guess I'm a born country girl.  How about you JU city, country or somewhere inbetween?

(Now if I could only convince my husband that chickens and goats are a good idea...)

Caves are good. No grass to mow.

Country!

Well, I don't know about JU, but I seem to find myself in the laboratory all the time.  Does that count?

The peace and quiet of the country...much prefer it to all the hustle and bustle of city life.

Caves. Or city. What's the difference again?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, rain. Caves are always wet or dry, cities alternate.

I prefer to live in the country but at the moment, live in a city. My wife and I are planning on moving to a rural property, not unlike yours, in the future. We too would love one with nut and fruit trees and a big vegetable patch.

I don't mind living in a smallish kind of town, as long as there would be some kind of yard for kids and pets.  Big yard.

But I think ultimately we'll end up out in the country somewhere.  I think my husband wants a mule too much to live in the city.  What a dork.

That's what the grave digger said.
