My questions...your answers
I'm taking a tax prep class at my local H&R block office. It doesn't start until Aug 29 but I just signed up so now I'm thinking about taxes. In Michigan a tax preparer doesn't have to have any type of official training or state certification. I'm taking the class because I'm lost for a career.

My answer: I always did my own taxes until I got married. Now my husband does them with the help of TurboTax.

How about you?

Nope. I always do them myself, then I always take them to get done, and I consistantly end up 20-30% better off. I recheck what he does and I never can really figure out the difference, but it is always more than I pay him, so why not?

I had a CPA do it one year.  Saw what he did, and did them myself after that.  Now I use Turbo Tax.  It has saved me a ton and I dont see a need to pay a CPA $500 to do them now.

Since I'm poo' (so poor, I can't afford the "r"), I can easily let TurboTax do all my stuff.  It is most helpful when moving between states and having multiple state returns to file.

I was so Po, I could not buy the second vowel!

I use H&R Block's e-file service.  That way if there's a mistake, they're responsible for it!

My Mother-in-Law is a VERY good accountant, and she does our taxes every year. We only pay $30 for her services (she works for a CPA Office, otherwise she wouldn't charge us at all).

Taxes????

We do our own. We don't have any deductions. I don't think Turbo can find what isn't there (although it would be nice).
Then we have a discussion about how our parents & grandparents knew the whole income tax thing was BS.
